Design Brief
Design an product for audio experience.
Switching who plays music on a Bluetooth speaker is slow and frustrating...
Because it takes too many steps, groups default to one person staying connected.
This setup detracts from the social listening experience.
A simplified handoff process could reduce frustration and enhance social moments.
Initial ideation explored creating a passable NFC puck or tile to allow connection.
During interaction testing, users found a separate control piece unnecessary. Tapping the speaker directly felt more natural and intuitive.
Further ideation focused on creating a communal object with familiar affordances.
No App Required
Toca connects through existing operating systems.
Visual Feedback
LED ring communicates the connection process in live time.
360 Degree Sound
Two full range drivers and two passive radiators provide omnidirectional sound.
Multiple Size Options
Water and Dust Proof Design
Electronics are separated from grill mesh and sealed by rubber gaskets.
Design for Disassembly
Screws accessible beneath the feet grant access to internals.
